Stillwater's rich history is celebrated throughout the St. Croix River valley, and especially in such special locales as the Stillwater Depot Logging and Railroad Museum. Another historic attraction is the Washington County Courthouse. Minnesota's first courthouse, it was first erected in Stillwater in 1849. The Currect structure was completed in 1870. Constructed of native sandstone and red brick, the courthouse features a projecting portico with two tiers of ten rounded arches. It stands today as "an ornament to the city," and "a credit to the county." The courthouse features guided tours and exihibits, and also hosts community events, meetings, receptions and concerts.
