Stillwater Antiques Galore

Story by: Maren Dale

It’s no surprise that a town that values heritage and history is home to one of the best selections of antiques and heirlooms the Midwest has to offer. Over 250 dealers display their antiques in downtown Stillwater shops, and they welcome collectors, treasure seekers and browsers alike.

Housed in historic Isaac Staples sawmill, Mill Antiques hosts over 80 dealers who fill the 20,000-square-foot space with period jewelry, furniture, reproduction hardware, premiere collectibles, vintage clothing and fine glassware. The sawmill is one of the most historic and interesting structures in town, recognizable by its 80-foot smokestack. It was built in 1853, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

If you’re looking for Victorian pickle castors – stylish glass containers used to serve pickles and condiments in Victorian times – you’ll want to visit More Antiques. More Antiques also specializes in nineteenth century furniture made of carved oak, walnut, mahogany and cherry; restored antique lighting; American art pottery; glass, including carnival, depression, cut opalescent and cranberry; sporting collectibles like fishing lures and duck decoys; thousands of postcards and paper collectibles and, as the name indicates, much more – including a clock repair shop. Forty dealers fill the 11,000-square-foot shop with their wares.

Midtown Antiques houses 22,000 square feet of quality antiques and collectibles. Known for its large stock of furniture, advertising collectibles and jewelry, Midtown Antiques offers treasures from 75 different dealers. Other notable items include road signs, glassware, holiday decorations, books, perfumes, Oriental rugs and folk art.
Sixty-five dealers reside at Mulberry Point Antiques, which deals only in original pieces. These dealers specialize in high-quality American period furniture, Arts & Crafts furniture and accessories, oak, Victorian walnut and mahogany, original paint and refinished pine, fine porcelains, pottery, textiles, Victorian jewelry, depression glass, collectible sporting goods and collector books.

Stillwater Antiques, located on the corner of Main and Myrtle Streets, features a fine selection of furniture, lighting, fine glass and china, pens and inkwells, linens, estate jewelry, vintage clothing, silver and sports memorabilia.

At River City Antiques, you’ll find kitchen items and artwork, in addition to many other antiques. Go to Country Charm Antiques to find newly upholstered antique furniture, antique dolls, toys, Indian beads, baskets, medical items and more.

American Gothic Antiques offers a wonderful selection of antiques, furniture, glass, estate jewelry and vintage clothing. Gabrielle: A Gallery of Fine Antiques specializes in nineteenth century furniture, accessories, investment quality antiques and art objects.

Antiquing in Stillwater is a wonderful way to spend the day, and part of the fun is discovering each store’s unique charm. You’ll enjoy meandering from shop to shop, purchasing beautiful antiques and finding items that bring back warm memories of times past. The knowledgeable dealers welcome your questions and will be happy to tell you more about their wares.

The stores mentioned are just a sampling of what Stillwater has to offer. Be sure to check out all these great downtown antique shops and discover your hidden treasure.
